Remove Claude’s formatting from Blackboard
Blackboard preserves pasted HTML, so copying straight from Claude carries its class names — the ones containing “claude” — into a Blackboard assignment submission. They are invisible while you read, but present in the source and readable by anyone who looks. Open the HTML view in the content editor and remove the class attributes, or attach a file instead of pasting.

- Blackboard's content editor preserves pasted HTML and exposes a source view, which instructors can open on a submission.
- Submissions are retained after the course ends, so anything pasted in stays on the record long after the grade does.
- Where a course routes submissions through Turnitin, the text is also stored by a third party — a separate exposure from the LMS itself.
The fastest fix
Open the HTML view in the content editor and remove the class attributes, or attach a file instead of pasting.
That handles the markup. It does not handle zero-width characters, non-breaking and exotic spaces, smart quotes or em dashes, which are text rather than formatting and survive every paste route on every platform.
